Culture of Risk, Oslo Triennale 2007

In 2006 Gary Bates was invited to Curate the 2007 edition of the Oslo Triennale, the third in a series of international architecture events organized by the National Association of Norwegian Architects (NAL), in collaboration with the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), Norsk Form, OAF (Oslo Association of Architects), and Oslo Teknopol. Under the theme “Culture of Risk”, the 2007 Triennale focused the attention on Norwegian Architecture in a critical perspective that expanded from the objectified quality of its tradition towards its potential for innovation, opening space to challenge innovative thinking and risk taking in architecture. The program unfolded through diverse initiatives in different venues across the city, including 2 main exhibitions, “Risk” and “Urban without Urbanity”, the special publication “B-Sides” and the Triennale International Conference.
